The Running Dream

Jessica thinks her life is over when she loses a leg in a car accident. She's not comforted by the news that she'll be able to walk with the help of a prosthetic leg. Who cares about walking when you live to run?

As she struggles to cope with crutches and a first cyborg-like prosthetic, Jessica feels oddly both in the spotlight and invisible. People who don't know what to say, act like she's not there. Which she could handle better if she weren't now keenly aware that she'd done the same thing herself to a girl with CP named Rosa. A girl who is going to tutor her through all the math she's missed. A girl who sees right into the heart of her.

With the support of family, friends, a coach, and her track teammates, Jessica may actually be able to run again. But that's not enough for her now. She doesn't just want to cross finish lines herself—she wants to take Rosa with her.

    1. Jessica is amazing! This book reminds me a lot of Shark Girl and Soul Surfer.

  2. Right now I am on the part when the doctor says she can get out of the hospital. She is happy she can get out but sad she that her leg is gone. They ride in the car on the way home. When they get home she tries to get out of the car but it is very hard for her. She gets out of the car and tries to walk up the stairs to her home. She thinks her life is over because she lost her leg.

  4. This book inspires you in many ways! She learns how to do things differently so fast because she is very strong and confident. If this were me I don't think i would be able to heal so fast and i would just want to give up and stop trying.

    1. They always say you don't know what you are capable of until you are in the situation. Who knows how you would handle a situation. That is also why they say not to judge people until you have walked in their shoes. We don't know what anyone is going through.
