The Big Field

Playing shortstop is a way of life for Hutch - not only is his hero, Derek Jeter, a shortstop, but so was his father, a former local legend turned pro. Which is why having to play second base feels like demotion to second team. Yet that's where Hutch ends up after Darryl "D-Will" Williams, the best shortstop prospect since A-Rod, joins the team. But Hutch is nothing if not a team player, and he's cool with playing in D-Will's shadow - until, that is, the two shortstops in Hutch's life betray him in a way he never could have imagined. With the league championship on the line, just how far is Hutch willing to bend to be a good teammate?

  1. I like the book so far because the book is talking about teamwork and friendship, while also dealing with the big games that the main character has to bypass with his friend and hopefully with his local pro baseball player, his own father.

    1. This is a pretty basic summary, Ethan. What are you thinking about what you are reading? I want to see how you are processing the information you are reading.

    2. Im thinking about how the main character is feeling when he makes it to the nationals with his team and if his dad will actually enjoy the success he has made. His teamwork with his team lead up to the success of the game.

  3. I finally finished the book and this book finally ends with the main character having his last regionals game that was also his teams championship game. I think and felt that the main character was really relived when he and his team finally won the championship game and his father finally was proud of him when he led his team to victory.

  4. I just started this book today and am kind of upset with the fact that I can already tell what the climax will be like. This is not the only factor that I don't like this book for. I also don't really like sports books anyways.

  5. Right now the Cardinals team has advanced to the finals and are playing on the field of their dreams, Roger Dean Field. It is the biggest baseball complex anywhere near them and they are very excited for the game to start. When Hutch notices how Derryl looks as if he thinks he should be there and doesn't act like its a big deal makes Hutch made at him.

    1. Why does it make him mad? Doesn't Hutch have the confidence to act the same way? Or is it something else that is really makeing him mad about Derryl?

  6. Now they have played their first game and Hutch is very upset with himself because he made an error on a play that he does everyday and he thinks it was all his fault that they lost.

    1. So what do you think of this? You haven't really told me much here.

  7. I have finished a book called the Eleventh Plague, which obviously isn't the book that I am supposed to do a blog about, but is a good story about sixteen year old Steve who tries to survive a vicious strain of the flu that has consumed a third of the population in America after America and China broke out in a war with his father.
